Tuning Pre-Check List
Share
Even if your vehicle appears mechanically sound, issues can still arise during tuning. Proper preparation ensures optimal performance and helps you avoid costly delays. Rushing the process often leads to wasted time and money. Use this checklist to set yourself up for success.
✅ Perform a Compression Test
Start by confirming your engine’s health with a compression test. This is one of the most important steps to ensure you're tuning a reliable engine. Don’t skip it.
✅ Replace Spark Plugs
Install new spark plugs and make sure they’re properly gapped—NGK 6510 is the recommended plug. Most plugs are not pre-gapped from the factory. For most Mazdaspeed3/6 engines, a gap between 0.024–0.027 inches works well. If you're running a high-power setup, contact us for specific recommendations.
✅ Inspect Vacuum Hoses, Clamps, and Couplers
Carefully inspect all vacuum lines, clamps, and couplers for leaks or signs of wear. Make sure everything is securely clamped or zip-tied. Catching a leak now prevents tuning issues later. Smoke, pressurize, and leak-down testing available.
✅ Check or Change Your Oil
Never begin tuning with low, old, or dirty oil—it can seriously compromise engine safety. Change your oil beforehand to protect your engine and ensure the tuning process goes smoothly.
